Obituary for Zenobia Wylula (Kendrick) Pless

Zenobia Wylula (Kendrick) Pless was born Oct. 18th 1942 in Haworth, Ok. to the le Rev. John Willie Kendrick and the Le First Lady Sallie Erma Harris Kendrick. She was the 4th of eight children. Her parents, three brothers, Charles, John Jr., and Ollie, One sister, Christine preceded her in deh. She began her educional background the age of five Hickory Grove Elementary and Booker T. Washington High School where she gradued in 1960. She also tended Central University. She began her spiritual walk the age of three t the Springhill Baptist Church in Idabel, Okla. Where Rev. Hunter was the Pastor, by singing solos… Yes Jesus Loves Me was her first solo. She was baptized the age of 10 and dediced her young life to working in the church. She sung in the choir, was Secretary of Sunday School and Surday Counsel and also ushered. She and her siblings were very fond of Gospel music and formed a trio called The Kendrick Singers which included her brother Ollie, her sister Arlinda and herself. When Ollie gradued from high school, she and Arlinda became the Kendrick Sisters. They sung all over the Tri-Ste area, Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. The Kendrick Sisters sung on live radio. The Johnhan Grant Hour, on KOSY radio in Texarkana, Texas. She always loved children and helped her parents with her younger brother ad Kenneth and Joe. In 1961 she reloced to Kansas City, MO and united with the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J. E. Lloyd, where she remained the rest of her life. Her first job in Kansas City was proof reading for the Star newspaper. In 1963 she married her only husband William Pless Sr. To this union three children were born. They were married 48 years before God called him home in September, 2011. During those 48 years of marriage she continued to work faithfully in the church. She was a Deaconess and she was the Secretary of the Deaconess Board, she sung in the choir and loved Sunday school. She loved her church family, especially the Pastoral family, the Mother Board and the Deaconess Board. In the le 70’s and the early 80’s she was entrepreneur of a child day care center. She provided services for families within the church and the community. Sone of the children she provided services for were Rah’man, and Duane Freeman, Mucka and several children around the area. In 1979 she started working Superior Linen Supply Company. She was employed with them for 17 years. 13 years out of the 17 years with the only perfect tendance award. In 1996 she retired from Superior Linen and worked for DST Systems one year before she medically retired. She always loved and cherished her grandchildren and helped with them regular. One again she open a child day care center with her granddaughter, Tora Fields, gre-granddaughter Ciana Taylor and one K.C. area child Daisa Scaife. In 2004 her clientele began to grow and she moved her daycare to South K.C. The bane if her daycare was MOMA ZEE’s “In Loving Hands”. Among the children she provided services for was Tamia Booker, Taylor Webb and Zoie Harrington and many others. MOMA ZEE’s closed after 12 years as her health began to fail. She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters Bevelyn Elder, Arlinda Shirley, one son Williams Pless Jr.(Sonja), one sister Arlinda Rahn, all of Kansas City, MO. Two brothers: Joe Kendrick of Mass. Kenny Kendrick of Oklahoma City, Ok, five grandchildren, Laciana Pless, Brandice Pless, Keyonna Hasam(Mike), Derrick George and Tora Fields all of Kansas City, MO. Nine gre-grandchildren, fourteen nephews, one special niece Elaine(Willie) Gahagans, one adopted daughter Rita Smith, one best friend Levern Gunnels. Two Special friend Jevern Clark and James Johnson and a host of other relives and friends.
