Obituary for Winfield Dewberry

Winfield Dewberry 78, passed March 31,2019 was born July 1, 1941 the Dewberry family, welcomed a healthy, brown eyed baby boy with big dimples in Guthrie, OK. He was named Winfield Arthur Dewberry, this name would become synonymous with strength, integrity, compassion, humility, love, devotion, hard work and family. Winfield started school in Guthrie and continued his educion when the family reloced to Kansas City, Missouri. He gradued from Central High School and was a decored and respected officer in the J.R.O.T.C. Winfield and his family tended church in Rev. Earl Abel’s home before moving into the building on 35 Th Street. While Palestine, Winfield served as a junior deacon. One day Rev. Abel saw Winfield eing in the fellowship hall and shared an idea to expand the church; Winfield drew this vision on a paper napkin and it became the addition plan. He ler enlisted in the United Stes Marine Corps, during boot camp Camp Pendleton Winfield earned his sharp shooter badge. He was ler assigned as a heavy transport driver, and traveled to many far away countries in Asia as he served his country during the Vietnam War. When his tour of duty was over, he returned to Camp Pendleton. While on working on base, Winfield met Elister Mae Hall, with whom he shared 33 years of marriage. To this union two sons were born Troy Anthony and Jason Arthur. Winfield was a dediced fher, stressing the importance of getting a good educion. Working le hours and lack of sleep, would not stand in the way of making sure they got to their activities. Even as his sons grew older and started their own families, he was still just a phone call away. Winfield went to work the General Motors Fairfax Assembly & Stamping Plant, where he was acknowledged many times for his outstanding punctuality and tendance before retiring after 43 years of employment. He even obtained an Associe’s Degree in History from Penn Valley Community College while working full time. A talented artist and gifted hlete, everyone wanted ‘Dr. Dew’ to opere on their team. Not only for his amazing physical ability but also for his sense of humor, competitive style. He won many awards, medals and trophies while having fun and building lifelong friendships. In 1999 Winfield met Jacqueline Adams. On April 8, 2000 Bishop John L. Brown Sr. united Winfield and Jacqueline in holy mrimony. This union produced a blended family th included Winfield’s two grown sons (Jason and Troy), young granddaughter (Annie); Jacqueline’s adult son (Tommy), teenage daughter (Astra) and young granddaughter (Myrelia). As the family grew, Winfield inherited two more granddaughters (Amaeris and Aria) and two gre-granddaughters (Hayden and Harper). He affectionely referred to all of the granddaughters as “Papa’s girls”. Winfield was preceded in deh by his first wife: Elister Hall-Dewberry and his mother: Rosa Gladys Dewberry. On the morning of March 31, 2019, after a courageous and lengthy btle. Winfield was called home to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He is survived by his wife Jacqueline; sons: Troy Dewberry (Kim), Jason Dewberry (Nasha), and Tommy Adams; daughter: Astra Garner (Justin); sister: Sandra Finister; granddaughters: Annie Dewberry, Myrelia Nichols, Amaeris and Aria Garner; gre- granddaughters: Hayden and Harper Nichols. niece: Simone Morris; special friends: Richard Nichols; Joe Cambiano and Bill Koenigsdorf (who were his tennis partners for 35 years) and a host of other friends and relives.
