Obituary for William Voyage Phillips (“Bill“)

William Voyage Phillips (“Bill“) was born to the union of Mr. Voyage Phillips and Ms. Irene Bullock Phillips, February 24, 1950, in Murfreesboro Arkansas. As a young toddler his parents reloced the family to Kansas City Missouri. He tended school in the Kansas City School District Greenwood Elementary and gradued from Central High School class of 1968. Young Mr. Voyage Phillips joined the staff Hallmark Cards where he learned strong work ethics and played overhand softball with a team of co-workers called “The Wild Bunch.” Mr. Phillips became known as ‘Steel Bill”. Bill served his country in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged. He tended Penn Valley Community College and took courses in Fire Fighting. It prepared him to do wh he most enjoyed, he loved helping people. He married Ms. Nancy White and to this union one son was born. The marriage ler ended in divorce. September 4, 1999 he married his soulme for life Ms. Marcia McLean. Bill applied and passed the written and physical fitness test and became a proud member of the KCMO Fire Department. For 18 years he was dediced to fighting flames, rescuing people from burning buildings, driving the pumper and always being a strong brother to his peers. He ler transferred to the Fire Prevention Department, serving as a Fire Inspector for eighteen and one half years. He was known as “Fire Marshall Bill” from th point on. In 1998, Bill took a very serious look his life and accepted Christ as his personal Savior. Her served his commitment Community Fellowship Church of Jesus Christ. There he served as a member of the Board of Directors, chairman of the E.R. Morris Men’s Associion, and as the church videographer. He was faithful in the church until his passing. Bill was proceeded in deh by his fher and two brothers, Van and Forest. He leaves to cherish fond memories, his loving wife Marcia, his mother Irene Phillips, sister Myrtle Lee Burton and brothers Michael A. Phillips and Jerome E. Phillips. His son Steven M. Phillips and Wesley O’Laughlin. Grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A host of family and friends.
