Obituary for Wardean Mitchem

Wardean Mitchem was born July 9, 1951 to the union of Ocen and Dorthy Clanton in Farmhaven, Mississippi. Preceding her in death are her Parents, parental grandparents William and Lou Ella Clanton and her Sisters, Ella Mae Clanton and Oceanlean Ebe. Wardean attended grade school in Farmhaven, Mississippi and attended high school at Velma Jackson High School in Camden MS. She later received her GED and enrolled in college in Kansas City, Missouri. Wardean, was a *Boss* and Jack of all trades. She worked several jobs throughout the Greater Metropolitan area. She began her employment at Winstead Drive-in, Rival Manufacturing, Farmers Insurance then later continued her employment with Western Electric/ATT. It was with ATT that she retired in 2004 with over 30 years of service. Her determination to more lead her to ER Morris, Harvey and Elite Funeral Chapels where she worked as a Funeral Director. Being an entrepreneur at heart she became sole proprietor and partner in several businesses. Together, Wardean and Jim partnered the following businesses: Central City Cab Company and 12 Gates Cemetery and were sole proprietors of Superior One Limousine Company. On October 12, 1974, Wardean married James (Jim) Mitchem. To this blended union children included: Renee, Val, Velinda, Ricky, Jeff, Dionne and Mark. She enjoyed playing softball, fishing and road trips with her soul mate Jim. She was a phenomenal cook and caterer and will be missed for her sensational pound cake which everyone requested. Wardean was a dedicated member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church where she joined under the leadership of Reverend J. W. Arnold. She matured in her faith under the leadership of Reverend L. Henderson Bell and presently with Reverend Charles Bond. She faithfully served as a Church Mother and Usher Board member. She was a member of Harmony Grand Chapter Eastern Star Kansas City, Missouri Order and Pink Ladies Social Club. She leaves to cherish her memory. Husband, James (Jim) Mitchem of the home. Only child, Richard Ammons; Raytown, MO Four daughters: Renee Medlock (Ed) Morrilton, AR, Valerie Lewis(Ken) Centennial, CO, Velinda Evans, Kansas City, MO, Dionne Parison (Tim), Lee Summit, MO. Two sons: Jeffrey Mitchem Kansas City, MO and Marcus Mitchem Kansas City, MO. Two Sisters: Dorthy (Dot) Clanton, Kansas City, MO, Susie Clanton of Kansas City, MO. Three brothers: Standford Clanton, Jackson MS, David Clanton, Kansas City, MO and Clarence Clanton (Kellie) of Crete, IL. Wardean also had a special relationship with her nephew Tony Carruthers (Cherrie) of Kansas City, MO which she assisted in raising. She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
