Walter L Newman

Walter L Newman "Babe" Walter L. Newman, 81, passed away at the VA Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri on November 12, 2023. He was born November 13, 1941 to the union of Robert and Fannie Ross-Newman in Kansas City, Missouri. Both parents and his only child Sherri Lynn Newman proceed him in transition. He received his education in the Kansas City Missouri school district, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1959. Walter entered the United States Navy in June of 1959, where he served aboard the USS Ticonderoga (CVA-14) as a Radio Mechanic 3, and went on to receive an honorable discharge in June of 1965. Upon returning to Kansas City he was employed by Puritan Bennett for 35 years as a machinist. He was a very active Mason being a Past Master of Booker T. Washington Lodge #9 F&AM/PHA and later a member of ST. Matthews Lodge AF&AM/PHO, and held membership in Scottish Rite as a Grand Inspector General and a Shriner. He met Rotha Perkins in 1986 and in 1997 they married, blended their families together and spent many years enjoying their lives traveling and socializing with friends. Walter attended Sunrise Baptist Church and later Willis Chapel AME. He leaves to cherish with loving memories his wife Rotha Perkins-Newman of the home; stepson Montae Perkins; brother Robert "PeeWee" Newman; grandchildren Montae R Perkins, Jamal Resonno, Brandon Joyner, Montrai Pearson; one great grandson Marley Perkins and great grand daughter India Perkins a host of aunts, uncles, cousins nephews and nieces. Funeral Service Held: Wednesday, November 22, 2023 Willis Chapel AME Church, 5332 S. Benton Ave. ~ Kansas City, Missouri Interment was at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
