Walter Edgar Akers

Walter Edgar Akers, Jr. 74 was born November 23, 1942 to the union of Edna Yvonne Ford-Akers and Walter Edgar Akers, Sr. Walter departed this life June 19, 2017, He professed Jesus Christ an early age and was christened United Methodist Church in Keytesville, MO. and baptized Paseo Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO. Walter was preceded in deh by his parents, baby sister Edna Viola Akers and eldest sister, Barbara Stewart. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Pricia of 31 years; sister Helen Williams; brother Alan Darryl Akers(Madelyn); sisters-in-law Sharon Flournoy, Jacqueline Simmons(Russell); 2 brothers-in-laws Henry Perry, Jr., Vern Hopkins, Jr.; children Carla, Regina, Derrick (Monica); Aunt Joyce and Uncle Theodore Hightower; Aunt Irene Carter; grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; in-laws; and a host of friends. Walter was born in Brunswick, MO and gradued from Manuel High School in Kansas City, MO. He then joined the United Stes Marine Corps and received an honorable discharge in 1964. Walter*s career history included working in the construction industry, Ford Motor Company, Insurance sales, and plumbing before retiring from the Kansas City Area Transportion Authority-Metro Bus Service in 2011. Walter was a dediced and fun-loving, family man. He dutifully exercised his right to vote and followed politics and current news events. His hobbies included bowling, dominoes, and playing cards. He was an avid bowler, reaching the ultime goal of bowling a perfect game score of 300 on multiple occasions. In addition to having a collection of *300 game rings,* his bowling in competitive leagues earned him numerous trophies. After retiring, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending more time with family and friends.
