Reverend Willie Gene Bailey Sr.

Reverend Willie Gene Bailey Sr. 96 passed away on April 14, 2017 was born on October 10, 1920 in Ft Benning, Ga. He lost his parents an early age and was adopted by Sol Goldstein’s family of Decur, Ga. He was drafted into World War II in 1939 and served until 1945. While in the service he married the love of his life Carnie Rector, on June 10, 1941. During this time, he served as a Buffalo Soldier, PFC HQ Troop B, 9th Calvary, Troop A, 10th Calvary; Ft Riley, Ks; Ft, Leavenworth, Ks; Camp Butler, NC; SW/Asiic Pacific, Philippines, and India. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, he was reassigned to the Air force in Massachusetts. When General MacArthur visited his camp, he volunteered for tank training and became an expert with tanks. He went overseas in 1943 and spent time in comb in the Pacific. In 1945, he was wounded and returned to the United Stes. He received the following honors and medals: Good conduct, Expert/sharp shooter, 2 Purple Hearts, Oak Cluster and American Service, an Honor Guard Cition from Mrs. Roosevelt and a Flag 76 for Beyond the Call of Duty from President Carter. After his service, he was given a choice to work for the Post Office in a number of different locions, and he chose Kansas City, Mo. Him and his wife moved to Kansas City, Mo. and this is where they started a family and had 7 children. After retirement, he continued to stay busy working a number of different jobs. He was called to serve the Lord Mariah Walker, AME Church in Kansas City, Mo. As a Pastor he served the Lord and Pastored churches in, Keytesville, Mo, Malta Bend, Mo, Speed, Mo, and Pltsburg, Mo. His last church he pastored was in the Westport Area of Kansas City. He was always active in the AME Church and he loved going to church and praising the Lord. He was a senior associe minister Bethel AME in Kansas City, Mo. He was proceeded in deh by his wife of 73 years, Carnie Bailey, two daughters, Janet Bailey and Brenda Rounds, one son Willie G. Bailey, Jr, and one grandson Mhew T. Rounds. He leaves to cherish his memory: his children Linda Bowman, Stanley Bailey, Victor Bailey, Sr, and Kevin Bailey all of Kansas City, Mo. His grandchildren: Cherine Bailey, Charles Rounds, Jr, Monique Rounds, Aisha Carter, Victor Bailey, Jr, Jeremy Bailey, Jasmin Bailey, Siob’Han Bowman, Daryl Bowman, Ramone Bailey, and Valencia Hardin. Eleven gre grandchildren, two gre gre grandchildren along with a host of other family members and friends.
