Obituary for Rev. Robert Louis Holt

Rev. Robert Louis Holt was born on May 25, 1933 to the le Charlie and Daisy Holt. He is One of Two children. Rev. Robert L. Holt’s wife Loretha Holt and son Johnny Scott both preceded him in deh. He served his country for three years in the United Stes Army. Rev. R.L. Holt the proud pastor of Rock Of Ages Missionary Baptist Church, answered God’s call to the ministry in 1962 and in 1963 was called to Pastor Second Baptist Church in Odessa, Missouri. Shortly after assuming responsibility he began making improvements and under his leadership the old Church was demolished and He built a new Church. Although this was way back during civil rights, Pastor Holt was on the board of directors Odessa Ste Bank, and he was instrumental in fighting for needed improvements in the community. Pastor Holt helped the church acquire the entire block on the church side, got sidewalks laid, hot wer installed and implemented many other needed improvements. Rev. R.L. Holt was called to Rock Of Ages Missionary Baptist Church on February 26, 1976; loced 2610 Indiana during th time. Within a year he acquired the building 3806 Prospect, which is our current locion. Shortly after acquiring the building he had the roof pitched and purchased the entire block to Wabash and had the houses torn down and a parking lot laid. In 1990 the church bought the house 3810 had it demolished and begin construction on the educional building, which was completed April of 1991. In 2011 under his leadership the church acquired the house 3812 Prospect, demolished it and put a parking lot on the south side of the building. In his 50 years, in the ministry, Pastor R.L. Holt has licensed and ordained numerous ministers, ordained many deacons and has baptized, married, and buried more people then you could possibly count. He has shown vision, wisdom and a sincere love for the flock God has put in his charge. He continues to be a fervent leader with vision and determinion, to share Christ’s love with the whole world. He leaves to cherish his memories: two daughter s Annie R. Laster (Dawson, GA.) and Gwendolyn J. Perry, niece Jana K. Foster, four grandchildren Cornelius Mitchell (Dawson, GA.), Sheila Mitchell (Leesburg, GA.), Thaddeus Mitchell (Dawson, GA.), Kelli Mitchell-Alexander (Douglas) of Dawson, GA., five grandchildren, 9 gre grandchildren, 6 gre-gre grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews, relives and friends.
