Mrs. Olene Singleton

Mrs. Olene M. Singleton, 83, passed away from surgical complicions on July 16, 2015 in Kansas City, Missouri. Olene was born on February 22, 1932, in Kansas City, Missouri. She was in the Sumner High Graduing class of 1951. She gradued summa cum laude from St. Margaret’s Nursing School and immediely stepped into a professional career. She worked as a Registered Nurse St Margaret’s Hospital and The Veteran’s Administrion Hospital. Then ler, moved onto the Martin Luther King Hospital and The Osteophic Hospital in the prestigious position of Head Nurse. Her most celebred professional achievement was becoming Head Nurse and Supervisor of the Surgical Amphitheer the Research Hospital, making her one of the few Black Women in this profession. The City of Kansas City awarded Olene Singleton with distinctive honors for leading the Triage unit during the disaster of the Hyt Regency Skywalk collapse on July 17, 1981. Olene had a personal relionship with the Lord, Jesus Christ. She lived by the words of her favorite song, “If I can help somebody as I travel along, then my living shall not be in vain.” Olene is predeceased by her husband, Riley Singelton, mother Berneda Lewis and sister, Maxine Brown. She is survived by her children, Howard Haskin Jr. (Joshua Sigal) of Paris, France, Wanda Singelton of San Diego, California, Karen Mohr (Steve Mohr) of Silver Springs, Maryland, Kevin Haskin of Kansas City, Missouri, Tamara Haskin of Berlin, Germany, Yolanda Hurd (Elgie Hurd Sr.) of Kansas City, Kansas, Cristel Singleton of Overland Park, Kansas; two grandsons, Jonhan Haskin of Washington Ste, Elgie Hurd Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri; one granddaughter, Deanté Hurd of Independence, Missouri and a host of nieces, nephews.
