Obituary for Mrs. Eleanor Wyatt

Eleanor Louise Denson Wyatt was born July 18, 1945 at 2829 N. Allis St. in Kansas City, Ks.  She was the third child born to the union of Hollie B. Denson of Hawkins, Texas and Exzetta Mae Pickens Denson of Berwyn, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, paternal grandparents; Nicholas "Bee" Denson and Julie Moore Denson; Maternal grandparents, Sim and Rhoda Roberts Pickens; sisters, Beauty B. Denson (Collins) Pearson-Thomas and Helen Denson Redmond-Wambugu: brothers Hollie B. Denson, Jr. and an infant brother. At the age of 12, she was baptized into the Bethel Baptist Church in Kansas City, Ks. under the pastorate of Rev. L.C. Rice.  In 1960, after the untimely passing of her beloved mother, she united with the Friendship Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev, I.H. Henderson, Jr. She worshipped at other churches as well. She was a strongly spiritual person attributed to both her early upbringing and her extended roots in Native American culture and the Great Spirit.  She was a card-carrying member of the Chickasaw First Nation Tribe. She received her early education in Kansas City, Ks. attending Dunbar Elementary and Northeast Junior High Schools. Moving to Kansas City, Mo. in 1960 she attended Central High School where she graduated with the class of 1963.  She went on to higher education at Johnson County community College, Penn Valley community college and Kansas City Kansas Community College graduating with honors and was inducted into Delta Theta Tau. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Kansas School of Nursing.  She graduated with honors and the Cum Laude designation and was also inducted into Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society International. She worked in several of the Kansas City area hospitals and taught at two colleges in Kansas City and one in Oklahoma before retiring in 2002 to work on Black Indian issues. She was united in marriage to Ernest Wayne Wyatt, on November 11, 1967 and two sons were born to this union, Eric Dwayne and Edward Tyrone. She founded a 501(c)3 Native American Educational foundation known as the Freedman Descendants of the 5 Civilized Tribes, Inc, in 2002, and created a web site of the same name to facilitate this goal. She has been the keynote speaker on college campuses, conferences, family reunions as well as hosting genealogy workshops for Black Indians. She has been an advocate of Black Indian rights, hosting Pow Wows, March on Washington, Conferences, and fighting for the 1866 Treaty rights of the descendants of some 20,000 labeled as freedmen on the Dawes rolls. She is the Clan Mother of the 5 Indigenous (Freedmen) Nations, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Cherokee, Creek and Seminole Nations.  She has had featured articles in the Nation of Islam newspaper the "Final Call" about the plight of Black Indians. She has written a book yet to be published “Whose Blood is This"for her grandchildren. She was a Past Worthy Matron of Alice M. Browne #40 Order of the Eastern Star, A Daughter of Isis, A Heroine of Jericho, a Loyal Lady of the Golden Circle and a Cyrene all of which are Prince Hall affiliates.  She was also the Clan Mother of the 5 Indigenous (Freedmen) Nations, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Cherokee, Creek and Seminole Nations. She leaves to mourn her crossing, her husband of more than 55 years, Ernest "Wayne" Wyatt, her sons Eric D. "Rick" Wyatt (Stefanie), Edward T. "Eddie" Wyatt (Alaina), grandsons, Jalen Malik Wyatt, Jaden Marcel Wyatt, Eric D Wyatt Jr, granddaughters, Makenzie Ann Wyatt, Alyssa Jamille Wyatt, Brittany Nicole Richardson, Candice Renee Richardson, Nile Ya Asentwa, great grandson Jordan Skip Thomas, great granddaughter Tristen Lynn Marie Barr, her sisters and prayer partner, Unestine Cannon, (Modesto, California), Celestine Capart,(Watauga,Texas) and Joyce D. Posey (Kansas City, Mo). Adopted son Aaron “Roy” Brown, and adopted daughter Dionne Reeves, seven half sibling, nieces, nephews and a host of cousins and friends and her fur baby Pita Pan Wyatt.
