Obituary for Mr. Rodney Cornell West

Rodney Cornell West was born in Kansas City, Missouri on April 24, 1960, to Julia Camilla Vick. He was raised by his mother and stepfher Felix J. Vick. He was the fourth of six children. His oldest brother Gregory C. West preceded him in deh. Also preceded him in deh were his parents, Julia C. Vick, Felix J. Vick, and a son Vichael West who died birth. In 1961, Rodney’s mother moved the family to Hutchinson, Kansas where he tended Lincoln elementary school and was a baptized Second Baptist Church where he began his walk with Christ and his love for the Lord. In 1972, his mother moved him and his siblings back to Kansas City where Rodney became a member of 35th Street Missionary Baptist Church. Rodney tended both Southeast Junior High School and Southeast Senior High School and gradued in 1978. He tended Morris Beauty School and obtained his Cosmetology License from the Ste Board of Cosmetology in Jefferson City, Missouri. Rodney was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where he worshiped Christ and was a loyal servant for the Lord. Rodney worked several jobs in his lifetime. He worked as a bus driver for the Kansas City, Missouri school district; a Mail Clerk for the Internal Revenue Service; a Clerk for Morris and Son’s Funeral Home; a Clerk for Harrah’s Casino. Rodney also worked as a Cosmetologist. Rodney’s was known for his big dimples, his sly but cute grin, his generous and loving heart, his love for his family as well as his closest friends and their children. His passion was playing BINGO and playing cards with family and friends. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Tonia Kay West, daughters Rickiey M. Dunn, Sherikus M. McCorkle, his niece/daughter Whitney P. Williams whom he affectionely called “Booga”, his Aunt Barbara Knight of Salina, Kansas, sister Tana L. Williams, bothers Curtis C. West, E. Chandler West, Anthony R. Vick, grandchildren, gre-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends. We are all blessed and thankful to have had Rodney Cornell West as such a significant part of our lives and pray th his spirit will always be with us with the unconditional love th he always shown us as he smiles down on us from his mansion in the sky, where he will spend all eternity in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ who is worthy to be praised. May we all emule his love of life and forgiveness th in due time, we shall be reunited with him in Heaven. Amen.
