Obituary for Mr. Ira L. Johnson

Ira Lee Johnson, 82, was born on February 14, 1938 in Sardis, Mississippi. He was the oldest son of six children born to the union of Isaac Johnson and Willie Edna Johnson. He received his educion in Strayhorn, Mississippi Spring Hill High School. Lee worked for Thompson Hayward Chemical Co., Government Employee Hospital Associion, and John*s Auto before opening his own Auto Shop which he opered until he retired. Lee accepted Christ an early age in Crenshaw Mississippi and ler moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he united his church membership with 35th Street Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the le Rev. R.C. Black. He served faithfully as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Choir Member and other ministries of the church. He ler moved his church membership to New Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the le Dr. James A. Howard Sr. serving faithfully as a Deacon. He continued to serve faithfully under Pastor Adrain Howard until his passing. Lee served as President of the Laymen Department in the Missouri Progressive Ste Convention and the Fellowship Missionary Baptist District Inc. While serving as District Laymen President, he started wh is known as the Laymen Banquet of the Fellowship District which he served faithfully for many years. Lee was united in Holy Mrimony to Margaret Johnson until the marriage was dissolved. Lee was united in Holy mrimony to Earnestine Johnson until the marriage was dissolved. Although the marriage ended, he continued to have a special relionship with her children. He was a special kind of person who loved being around people and always kept a smile on his face. His favorite hobbies were bowling and cooking, especially cooking on the grill. He also, enjoyed going to the green pch to pick fresh greens from the garden. He loved cooking for his family and friends who affectionely referred to him as *Unc*, Papa Lee, and Deacon Johnson. Lee loved to sing and would often sing out loud no mter where he was. *Cooling Wer and *I want to be the meeting* were two of his favorites. As Lee*s health began to fail him, he received gre care from the staff Just Schooling Adult Daycare and ler The Carousel Adult Daycare during the day while his guardian and caregiver, Lanora was work. Lee was called home by our Heavenly Fher on Friday, May 1,2020. He was preceded in deh by his parents Isaac Johnson, Willie Edna Whitting. His son Calvin Johnson-Sykes, stepson Michael Prelow, two sisters Ruthie Mae Johnson, Allie Vera Ramsey-Wright, one brother John L. Johnson and a special cousin Richie Lee Te . He leaves to forever cherish his memory, his devoted, loving caregiver and special friend Lanora Wesley and her children Monique Dixon, Independence, MO and Eric Williams, Wroclaw, Poland. His son Eddie Davis, Memphis, TN, stepdaughter, Jacqueline Prelow(Kevin) Kansas City, MO, Two Sisters, Ella Boles, Kansas City, MO, Melissa Abbott Blair(Charles), Ohio, two brothers Willie Curtis Johnson (Betty), Independence, MO, Ronald Abbott, Kansas City, MO, special Cousin AJ Farmer, Memphis, TN and a host of grandchildren,
