He served from 1958 to 1979 in which time he was able to continue his educion to become a highly respected Army Medic which ultimely landed him in the JET Magazine for a heroic action in the Vietnam War of 1966 to 1967. Charles made a career in the army and retired in 1979 Fort Benning in 1980. He went on to be ordained as a Baptist minister in Tucumcari, NM in 1985. Because of his love of travel Charles obtained his CDL certificion and took every chance to “Burn Up Th Highway” he could, until his health started failing and his traveling was halted. Although human, Charles was the best husband, fher, fher in law, grandpa and brother we could have got. But mostly a devout man of God! Never raising his voice but could command a room. He eluded courage, class and positive motivion. He will sorely missed by us all. He leaves to cherish his memories: daughter Angelea Baker Billings (James) Albuquerque, NM, son Charles Crayton Baker Jr. (Janine Johnson) of KCMO, three grandchildren Tenysha Billings, Jasmine (Peter) Billings and James Billings II all of Albuquerque, NM and 1 gre granddaughter he adored Ms. Layla Lopez of Albuquerque, NM.
