Obituary for Monroe Chester Nash

Monroe Chester Nash was the middle child born to Effie Lee and Leon Bernard Nash Sr. on March 5, 1936. He had an early interest in music and began playing the trombone while in grammar school. After graduing from Sumner High School in Kansas City, Kansas, he pursued his nurally gifted musical passion Lincoln University where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music followed by a Master of Arts Degree in Music. He was a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Psi frernity and a member of Psi Mu Alpha music frernity. Following his college years, he held a distinguished and notable two-fold career in administrion and musician tutoring. He taught music in the Kansas City Missouri Public School District. In 1988, Monroe retired from the Harvey Illinois School Board. After relocing back to his beloved hometown, he became President of the Internional Jazz Appreciion (IOJA) and was inducted as an Elder Stesman of Kansas City Jazz Hall of Fame. Monroe (Monny) was a nural and luminous entertainer who lit every room he entered. A legend never to be forgotten. He leaves to mourn in his passing: Brother Leon “Sonny” Nash of Lawton Oklahoma, Sister-In-Law Wakoto “Dchi” Nash, Sons Monté L. Nash (wife Erika Loria-Nash), Dwayne “Happy” Hill (wife Tina Hill), of California, Michael Nash Of Kansas City, Cousins Mel Rodriguez, Michele Lewis, Aunt Lizzie Lewis, Grandchildren Jazz Hill, Jadelynn Nash, Dakota Hill, Emme Nash, Indiana Hill, Monika Lee Nash and a Whole a Host Of Friends, Fellow Musicians And Frernity Brothers.
