Obituary for Kevin Renord Wers

Kevin Renord Wers 61 passed away on June 10, 2017 Born November 7, 1955, the third child of Claude “Sonny” Wers and Josie Marie Wers. When Josie Marie died December 23, 1958, she left her three sons, Claude Jr., “Buggie”; Warren, “Babe Brother;” and Kevin, ”Tickle;” to be raised by their aunt and uncle Jeff “Daddy Jeff,” and Odessa, “Mama Dess,” Williams in the 54th Street, Mozier Township, Dunbar neighborhood. Kevin tended Graceland Elementary school, and Southeast Junior and Senior high schools, graduing in 1974. In 1976, he exchanged vows of forever with the love of his life, Gale Jeanette Mays. Kevin joined the military, and their amazing journey as a family grew in richness and love as they brought to their union two daughters, Josette Marie and Monique Yvette. Kevin, Gale and the girls traveled the world. Upon leaving the military, he began another career as a courier with the Hickman Mills Consolided School District until his retirement in April 2016 due to health issues. A man of deep faith, Kevin was baptized Willis Chapel A. M. E. Church, where he maintained his membership. He and his brother Claude tended Good Samaritan Baptist Church, where their aunt and uncle, Rev. Walter J. and Olean Witherspoon were the Pastor and First Lady. Ler, Kevin faithfully tended Concord Fortress of Hope with his wife, Gale, where Rev. Ron Lindsay was his Pastor and friend, but maintained connection to his home church Willis Chapel. Kevin loved the Lord with all his heart and served His teachings of love, concern and family to the end of his journey. Never ashamed to speak of his savior, whenever the doctors told him distressing news, his response was always, “God is in control.” A sportsman to the core, Kevin got his nickname “Squirrel” because while dunking a basketball, his teammes said he looked like a squirrel climbing to the nets. An avid golfer, former basketball “star,” and all-around hlete, Kevin ran track, bowled, and was a “pool shark.” He played Wii bowling like it was the PBA. He loved wching all types of sports and talking incessantly about them. Another joy of Kevin’s was talking with young men and mentoring them in the importance of family and life. He was honest and always told the truth whether the listener wanted to hear it or not; yet, he was non-judgmental. People were people to him, and he would start a conversion with anyone. Whoever he was talking to felt th they were the center of his tention. Because of the deep love he had for his older brother, “Babe Brother,” Kevin was particularly friendly to those with special needs. He was never shy about telling you how he really felt about things. He was loved by many and maintained close relionships with childhood friends. He loved Gale, his girls, Cornelius and his grandchildren with a complete, unwavering love. When they entered his space, his whole demeanor lit up. This last year was especially significant to him because he, Gale, the girls, Cornelius and grandchildren were able to travel, laugh much, and spend more time with each other. He also immensely enjoyed the visits with Claude and Don who came to visit him often and extensive one-on-one quality time with his extended family. Greeting Kevin in Glory are his mother Josie Marie Wers; fher Claude C. Wers, Sr.; mother, Marion Jo Wers; aunt, Odessa Williams; uncle, Jeff Williams; mother-in-law, Juanita Mays; fher-in-law, Leroy Mays, Sr.; sister, Rosalind Clark; brothers, Kip Bonds and Warren Wers. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gale Wers; daughters Josette Marie Mitchell (Cornelius) of Kansas City; Monique Yvette Wers, of Kansas City; brothers, Claude Wers, Jr. (Donald Otis Keyton) of Lawrenceville, Georgia; sister Kim Bonds-Fuhr (Bobby); aunts, grandchildren Jadynne Mitchell, Cornelius Mitchell Jr., Noah Mitchell, a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
