Obituary for John W. Johnson

John W. Johnson 94 passed away on April 11, 2017 was born on May 7, 1922 in Vaden, Mississippi. John was one of six children born to the union of Wilbert and Etory Johnson. John was preceded in deh by his parents; one sister, Molly Brown and two brothers Herman and Johnnie Johnson. Ler, the Johnson family moved to Neelyville, Missouri where he tended school during his elementary and secondary years. Initially, his spiritual affiliion was in the AME church where he professed his hope in Christ an early age. John has always enjoyed working. As a teen he helped to farm the family land. Consequently, he developed a genuine love for cultiving the soil and has a history of producing bountiful crops of vegetables each year. Because he loved being outdoors, he also spent many years manicuring lawns as a favorite pastime. In addition, during the Gre Depression, he participed in the Civilian Conservion Corps, an innovive federally funded program th provided environmental jobs for participants. John was an army veteran who proudly served his country during World War II where he was ler honorably discharged in 1946. After his military service, he married the love of his life, Juanita Holton Johnson. John and Juanita would have been married for 66 years in June of 2017. John’s first job in Kansas City was as a service stion tendant. From this position, John worked for Tobin Seed Company for over fifty years. The family joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church in 1951 where John was baptized into the Baptist faith. He was an active member Mt. Zion where he was a faithful member of the Mass choir, the Men’s Chorus and a member of the Sunday Church School. He remained a devoted member even when his health began to decline. He leaves to cherish with loving remembrances his devoted wife, Juanita Johnson; two sisters Rosie L. Brown of Toledo, Ohio; Edith M. Davis of St. Louis, MO; and a host of nieces, nephews, relives, church family and many friends.
