Obituary for James Howard Marshall

James Howard Marshall was born on November 2nd, 1956, in Monroe, Louisiana to the parents of Ben Marshall, Jr and Doris L. Marshall. James is the oldest of his four siblings. James was preceded in death by his father Ben Marshall, Jr. James was Ten years old when he relocated from Monroe, Louisiana to Kansas City, MO with his mother and Four siblings. He accepted Christ at an early age and continued his walk throughout his life span. He was educated in the Kansas City, Missouri Public School District. James attended Southeast Junior and Senior High School where he was a member of the R.O.T.C. His membership of the R.O.T.C. was the driving force that motivated him to enlist in the U.S. Army Military during his senior year of high school in 1974. After enlisting, James was immediately shipped off to boot camp training. However, he was able to complete his Senior Year of High School and graduated from Junction City High School, in Junction City, Kansas. James served active duty in the U.S. Army Military from 1974 to 1980. He was honorably discharged on June 19, 1980. He received the Defense Service Medal being recognized as an expert in marksmanship for Hand Grenade, M-16 Rifle, and .45 Cal Pistol and he was a Tank Driver. While serving his country, he studied Electronics and Technology. James returned home to his family in the Kansas City, Missouri area after completing his tour of duty from the U.S. Army Military. After returning home to civilian life in 1980, he completed his post-secondary education at DeVry Institute of Technology where he received a degree in IT. James continued his education with obtaining certifications in IT and Software. He worked for IBM as a Territory Training Manager for 22 years until he retired. Sometime later after retirement, James pursed a skilled trade as a Journeymen Electrician. He was a very smart and talented Individual. James A.K.A “Howard” loved to play his bass guitar. In his younger years, he would hold Jam sessions on his mother’s front porch. He also enjoyed cruising around town on his motorcycle on a sunny afternoon. He attended every Kool Jazz Festival that came to town. James enjoyed spending time with his lifelong friends and buddies from Southeast High School. He was an excellent cook and a self-proclaimed chef. James enjoyed cooking for his family and friends. He only cooked from scratch and could tell you the recipe for every meal he prepared. You could always find him in the kitchen whipping up a good meal. James was a loving son, brother, and uncle. He touched the lives of all that he encountered and would always talk about praying and keeping faith in God. He will truly be missed by his family and friends. James leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved Mother - Doris Marshall, Brother - Kenneth Marshall and three Sisters: Barbara Young (W.D.), Judy Marshall, Alma Davis (Lawrence), all of Kansas City, Missouri, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and special friend - Theresa Cleaver. His love and wisdom will live on in the hearts of all he touched during his journey of life. Funeral service held Thursday, Oct 09, 2025.
