Obituary for Deacon Charles Davis Jr.

Charles Davis, Jr. was born October 30, 1934, in Morrilton, Arkansas. He was the oldest of fifteen children born to the union of the le Garland C. Davis and Harriett Hardin of Morrilton, Arkansas. His siblings, Floyd Davis, Flora Davis-Smith, Maybell Davis, Virgil Reece Davis, Marian Davis-Livingston, Cleophus Davis and Douglas Davis preceded him in deh. Charles tended and gradued from Conway County High School in Menifee, Arkansas where he met his childhood sweetheart, Dortha Mae Mitchem. Charles and Dortha Mae were married November 17, 1956. From this union God blessed them with a son, Jeffrey J. Davis. Charles served our country for five years in the United Stes Air Force and was based in San Antonio, Texas. He served during the Vietnam Wartime and completed his service in Kansas City Richard Gabauer Air Force Base. The United Stes Air Force honorably discharged Charles with the rank of Staff Sergeant. After the military, he worked for Montgomery Ward department store where he retired in 1998 after 36 years of exemplary service. Charles accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior Hickory Hill Missionary Baptist Church loced near Morrilton, Arkansas. Upon moving to Kansas City, he united with the Emmanuel Baptist Church under the leadership of the le Bishop W.H. White, Sr. He faithfully served the church as a Sunday School teacher and Usher for 30 years. Charles joined Second Baptist Church of Kansas City, MO, December 13, 1998, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Kendall D. Jones, Sr. He was a faithful, loyal, and devoted member who loved the Lord and loved the church. Charles was ordained a Deacon in 2000 and served as chairperson of the Board of Deacons from 2005 to 2006. He was honored as Deacon Emeritus in June of 2013. Charles had a sincere passion for ministering to persons who were experiencing family situions or bereavement. He encouraged everyone to study the word of God and always pray. Charles was also a member of Sunday School Class No. 2 and the hospitality ministry where he enjoyed welcoming visitors to the church. He was known for his sense of humor, kind words and witty stories. Charles sincere passion for ministering to persons in bereavement further led him to serve as Chaplin for The American Legion Post #149. He would also extend the official acknowledgement of duty rendered to United Stes Service personnel and their families grave site ceremonies. Charles departed this earthly world to his heavenly home March 5, 2022, the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, Missouri. He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife, Dortha Mae Davis; son, Jeffrey J. Davis; granddaughter, Airiona Maxwell; gre grandson, Ma’Kel Maxwell; brothers, Audrey Davis (Flossie Jean), Abel Davis (Theresa); twins, Jerry and Terry Coleman; sisters, Hygia Prick, Georgia Jones (Pastor Willie); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the Second Baptist Church family.
