Obituary for Chequita Mae Simpson McClain (Cheetah)
Chequita Mae Simpson (Cheetah) was born August 8, 1956, in Kansas City, KS, to the union of Roy and Alberta Simpson. She was the youngest daughter and youngest of all six children born to this union. Upon graduating from Westport High School (C/O 1970), Chequita continued her education at Pioneer College of Business obtaining an Associate*s Degree. Throughout her professional career, Chequita held various administrative and management positions, all within the medical field, until she retired in 2021 from Encompass Medical Group.
In June 1980, Chequita married the love of her life and forever dance partner, Thomas Manuel McClain, Sr. Added to their union were Thomas Manuel, Jr. (TJ) and Tyra Alberta. If you knew Thomas and Chequita, you knew they were the life of the party anywhere they went. Their spirit of laughter, fun and enjoyment were infectious to anyone they encountered. Thomas and Chequita were happily married, for 42 years, until Thomas passed in 2022.
In 1982, Chequita obeyed the gospel, confessed her belief in Jesus Christ and was baptized. A faithful member of Swope Parkway Church of Christ, Chequita was a Sunday School teacher, served on the Baptism Committee, served on the Hospitality Committee, served on the Decorating Committee, served on the Benevolence Committee, was a member of the New Inspiration Choir and member of the 87th Street Ministry. During her final years of service, Chequita worshipped at the Blue Ridge Church of Christ.
Chequita was a woman of high and uncompromising character. She truly embodied and exuded the fruits of the Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control (Galatians 5: 22, 23). Regardless of any situation, she was consistent with allowing God to guide her response. On the other hand, she was also not shy about telling anyone her "9 wide" (shoe) could handle things if folks got too far out of line. Ultimately, Chequita was an angel on earth who never met a stranger. She literally knew someone wherever she went, even when she traveled. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, shopping, watching *shoot em ups* (westerns), listening to Luther (Vandross), traveling, hanging with her partner in crime (Thelma * her big sister Bettie) and ultimately encouraging everyone to accept Christ before it was too late.
She leaves to cherish her memory; her children Thomas McClain, Jr and Tyra Stevenson (Rian). Siblings LeVoide Simpson (Patricia); Joyce Williams (Lewis); Herbert Simpson (Stephanie); Geneva Smith (Hanson); and Bettie Fisher (Richard). Grandchildren TaVon McClain; Thomas McClain, III; Tori McClain; Riann Stevenson; Roi Stevenson and one Great-Grandchild Aleia McClain. Also, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
