Obituary for Brenda Jean Lloyd-Petty

Brenda Jean Lloyd-Petty 58 passed away on November 18, 2017 was born November 20, 1958, into the union of Marion and Ella (Lloyd) Petty in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the fifth born of eight children. Brenda came to know Christ an early age and was baptized in the lantic Ocean as a young adult. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri. Brenda tended primary and secondary school in the Kansas City Public School District. She earned a Paralegal Certifice and Associe of Arts Penn Valley Community College. Brenda completed her undergradue degree and earned a Masters of Liberal Arts from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Brenda authored three revolutionary works: The African American Woman’s Religious Evolution, from its African roots through the early Black Church’s 16th century beginning and to the Present, The Valley of Dry Bones, and AIDS in Black – Behold a Pale Horse. the time of her illness, Brenda was completing her life’s work, an expose of Christianity, science and the intersections of spirituality, universalism, anomy and history. She was a fearless advoce for women and children, victims of domestic violence and an activist in AIDS awareness. She was a sought-after public speaker and poet. Following in her mother’s footsteps of community service, she began Haven of Hope in 1999 to empower women experiencing domestic violence and abuse. Brenda was a full-time caregiver for her mother for 17 years. Brenda was preceded in deh by her fher, Marion O.T. Petty, Sr, one sister, Bonita Petty and a nephew, LaMar Robinson. She leaves to mourn her passing, her mother, Ella Petty, Sr., three daughters, Taneesa Petty, Shawntee Petty-Ford and Taylor Petty; two son-in laws, Dexter Calloway and Michael Kelby Sr., Five granddaughters, Dejionae Calloway, Aundrea Calloway, Micah Kelby, Mariah Kelby, Micyrah Kelby, one grandson, Antonio Calloway; two gre-grandchildren Monte Calloway and Michael Kelby Jr.; three sisters, Carolyn Fulson, Ella Petty Jr., and Tawnya Petty; three brothers Marion (Vashti) Petty II, Nhaniel (Lois) Petty and Emmanuel (Benita) Petty; nieces: Carmen Fulson, Tameka Fulson, Camia Stanton, Daphne Fulson, Taleah Fulson, Deasia Fulson, Mariana Stanton, Kameron Fulson, Kaylan Fulson, Melissa Robinson, Jenee Petty, Monique Petty, Chevelle Rodgers, Ramiyah Petty-Calhoun, Rayana Petty-Calhoun, Niyah Rodgers, Jalivia Bowman, Sierra Petty, Losha Petty, Miesha (Kevin) Leverette, Simone Petty and Sydnie Petty; nephews: Andre Fulson, Kenneth (Rachelle) Fulson Sr, Corey Gipson, Kenneth Fulson II., Kenneth Fulson III, , Jeremiah Stanton, Jeffery Johnson Jr., Brooks Johnson, Flloyd Bandy III, Robert Rodgers, Terrell Rodgers, James Bowman Jr., Marion Petty III, Marion Petty IV, Troy Petty, Jaylen Petty, Frank Miller III, Kaylen Leverette and best friend Onetta Johnson.
