Obituary for Anita Woods

Mother Anita M. Solis Woods 97, passed on February 20, 2019 was born June 26, 1921 in Dallas, Texas, the daughter of Jose’ Plan Solis and Ella Butler Solis(Deceased). She was the “Baby” of the family with two brothers, Joe Solis, Floyd Solis and a sister Augustine Solis Cameron, all deceased. Her Christian life began in Dallas, TX where she was baptized when she was 16 years old by Rev. Chambers, Good Street Baptist Church. In 1935, Mother Anita moved to Kansas City, MO. In 1945 she joined St. Stephen Baptist Church, Rev. John W. Williams, Pastor. Mother Anita was a member of Faith, Hope and Charity Mission Circle; First Aide Board; charted member of the Welfare City Car; History Committee; Mother’s Board; Deacons’ and Trustees’ Wives Board. She Loved to read and often quoted many verses from the Bible. Mother Anita was very proud of her church family and spoke of them lovingly and often. When her health began to fail, she missed being able to tend St. Stephen. Mother Anita tended B.F. Darrell Elementary School and gradued from Booker T. Washington High School, Dallas, TX. She also tended Wiley Junior College in Dallas, TX. Before settling into her chosen career, Mother Anita had several jobs. One being helping to build ships in the shipyards in Setle, Washington. Mother Anita recognized her passion very early In life, th of caring for people. With her gentle and compassioned spirit, nursing was the ideal profession for her. She received her Licensed Practical Nurse Certifice from Menorah Medical Center, Kansas City ,MO. She worked as a LPN Menorah for 26 years and retired from there in 1979. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Long Star Chapter No. 2, Kansas City, MO for 57 years. Mother Anita met and married the love of her life, Major Woods, April 6, 1950. Her beloved Major died May 11, 2006. They had been married for 56 years. Mother Anita and Major were loving parents to one daughter, Denise M. Woods(Deceased). She is survived by three grandchildren, Charles Ray Moore; Stephen Moore; Demetrius Franklin; several gre-grandchildren; two nephews, Harold Bradford Moore III(Pearlie); Keith Solis(Tricia); five nieces, Tonya Solis-Mosby(Rev. Michael); Carmen Hughes(Tom); Sherri Moore Williams(Roderick); Bonita Otti(Dr. Theodore);and Cynthia Moore. Also special friends, Eddie and Mary Robinson; Lois Chapman and other relives and friends. Whenever you saw Mother Anita, she always had a purse( a large one). A purse was her favorite accessory. So when she was carried to the hostpital on February 16, 2019, she carried her purse, on last time.
