Obituary for Almeta D. Barbour

Almeta D. Barbour was born to the union of Henry & Nettie Buchanan on December 18, 1941, in Granville, North Carolina. Almeta gave birth to 4 beautiful children...2 who precedes her in transition. Almeta transitioned from this earthly life Feb. 09,2024. Her parents Henry & Hettie Buchanan, Daughter Michelle, Son, Dwayne, son in love Antione and Grandsons Cirr, Dirrick & Michael precedes her transition. Almeta grew up in Granville, North Carolina, but as a toddler her parents left there and moved to Buffalo, NY where she grew up and was educated. Almeta met and married Walter Barbour and to this union 3 children were born 2 daughters. Bridget, Michelle (who precedes her in transition) and a son Walter Barbour, Jr... With their oldest only being 2 years old, Walter wanted to bring his family to Kansas City, MO where they settled and raised their family. Almeta worked for the US Postal Services for 42 years and retired in 2006. Almeta enjoyed bowling, playing cards, socializing and hanging out with family and friends. Almeta attended and became a member and Concord Fortress of Hope under the Leadership of Pastor Ronald Lindsey...she was also a member of the Mothers* Board. Almeta was also a member of a prominent local Social Club known as S.E.B.R.A., Auxiliary (Southeast Bar Restaurant Association, Auxiliary) ...later to be known as the Ladies in Blue. Almeta was always a blessing and a joy to be around...her intoxicating smile and laugh will sadly be missed! Almeta leaves to Charise her earthly existing: her brother Purnell Davis...her beloved and dutiful daughter Bridget Woods and son Walter Barbour, Jr, granddaughters...LaTasha Owens (Romain), Nicole Dyer (Brian), Erica Buchanan (Lafayette), Brittany Williams (Russell), Brandy Hughes, Shaunda Gipson (Anthony), Sharde Young (PY), Shalyn Wilson...grandsons: Jeremy Buchanan and Walter Barbour. Almeta was blessed to enjoy 36 great grandchildren that will miss loving on their grannie. Almeta also leaves to cherish her memories... a host of honorary sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, grandsons, granddaughters and friends, entirely way too many to mention... but are recognized.
