Obituary for Alberta Larue Hudson

Alberta Larue Hudson graced this world on June 3, 1959. Alberta was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Glennis Davis and William Perkins and was lovingly raised by Issac Davis who cared for her as his own. Alberta Larue came into this world as a twin, alongside her brother Albert Leroy, who passed away shortly thereafter. As a child she was affectionately known as Ms. Bert. From a young age she was motherly, affectionate, but extremely protective. As friendly as she was, you did not want to find yourself on her bad side. Ms. Bert was full of spunk. Growing up as middle child, having 8 siblings, Alberta loved to double dutch during the day and could play jacks all night. She continued in Kansas City throughout her upbringing and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1977. She met her husband, Rocky L. Hudson, when she was 24 years old on 24th and Vine, the popular hang-out spot at the time. Rocky still recounts watching her walk into the pool hall that night. As the life of the party everywhere she went, the social butterfly in her flew on over and immediately made him laugh. Mesmerized by her humor, hospitality, and good cooking, he was drawn in from there and the rest is history. In 2000 Albert and Rocky married and years later went on to have their daughter, Raquel Harrell, raising a total of three beautiful children together. They joined Victory Outreach together * while he played Bass she cooked. She accepted Christ and her faith endured until the end. In her professional life, Alberta worked for the City of Kansas City as a tax payer specialist for 24 years. She enjoyed working for the city and made every place she went home. Turning her office into a kitchen and living room, she was always prepared for a good time. On or off the clock, Alberta was known for her bright pink heart, unconditional love, and fun personality. Alberta loved a good crowd. On Thursday nights you were sure to find her doing her favorite thing - playing cards. She also enjoyed playing bingo, traveling, and loved a good shopping spree. Alberta loved to cook because it brought the crowd. She loved people and people loved her. As Proverbs 18:24 says, *a man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: And there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother* (KJV). Alberta was the best friend you could have. She was far from selfish, full of love and laughter, non-judgemental, and trustworthy. In the good times and bad, you could lean on Alberta. She stayed true and remained strong and resilient not just in her words and wise counsel, but as an example through how she lived her life. Alberta fought breast cancer for 15 years in the most graceful way anyone could. She never complained and maintained her independent spirit. She fought every day to prove she was a survivor * sporting the pink ribbon gear and joining the awareness walks every year. She embraced the disease as just another hurdle to courageously jump over and was and continues to be an iconic symbol of resilience. Until taking her last breath on the evening of April 15th, 2024, Alberta remained true to herself * fighting fabulously. Her radiant light and memory lives on. Alberta was proceeded her in death by her three parents, as well as, her son, Branen Jermaine Harrell. She is dearly missed by her husband, Rocky L. Hudson; son Lamont Antonio Harrell; daughter Raquel Elizabeth Harrell; Bonus children Tina Bond and Rocky Bond; brothers Mack Harrell, Clyde Harrell, and Harvey Harrell; sisters Helen Bowland, Willa J. Webb, and Celestine D. Perkins; 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends she impacted along her journey.
