Obituary for June Vonzelle White
June Vonzelle White of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on January 22,2026. She was born to the union of Miss Phyllis White and Mr. John Williams on March 15, 1948, in Jefferson City, Missouri. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized as a member of the Second Christian Church (DOC) under the pastorate of Reverend Walter York.
June was educated in the Jefferson City public school system and graduated with honors from Jefferson City Sr. High School, class of 1966.
In strong "Mother Phyllis" house there were only two options: furthering your education or getting a job. Of course, June very quickly enrolled at Lincoln University and achieved her bachelor's degree in business education. As her career life and life of community service began, she continued her studies and achieved a master’s degree in business management from Webster University.
Her career and service life began here in Kansas City, Missouri. At the invitation of the late Leon Jordan, business and community leader. His vision planted June as a part of the administrative team at the Black Economic Union with Curtis McClinton doing "strategic blocking" and June often "running the ball," creating opportunities for local minority businesses and organizations to secure major contracts and furthering the strength of its future. She became a sales representative with Xerox Corporation and then she took on a sacrificial location to Pennsylvania and worked with Honeywell Corporation as a human relations manager and HVAC inspector. After the mission was accomplished, she returned to Kansas City to work for the purchasing department of Jackson County. As assistant director of purchasing, June's mission was not only to increase minority participation but to improve the lines of communication between minority businesses, government agencies and corporate America. After several years at Jackson County, the gaming industry came to Missouri and June became the director of compliance for Station Casinos. Upon her arrival at Station the gaming commission was faced with the task of hiring 10,000 minority employees with no felony records along with forming as many minority vendor contracts as possible. So, June gave them the crazy idea of marrying the church and the gaming industry. Well, that happened.
Historically, pastors of almost every denomination had lunch with administrative members of the gaming industry. Communication gaps were narrowed and employment was on the rise. Later, June started Meticulous Lawn Care Service. Her expanded career life included joining and or associating with several business organizations such as Minority Contractors Association, Minority Supplier Council, Black Chamber of Commerce, Hispanic Chamber and The Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City, to name a few.
Having been born to a very strong single mom, June was birthed into community service. She was raised to be actively involved in her church and schools, and on December 12, 1972, June Vonzelle White was born again by crossing the "Burning Sands" into "Delta land." As a proud member of the Kansas City, Missouri Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, June served in several different offices: community liaison, treasurer, member of the scholarship committee, recording secretary, Cotillion chair, Central Region secretary under Jesse Nave Carpenter’s administration, and co-chair of the steering committee for the Delta's Habitat for Humanity project.
On May 17, 2003, June joined the Greater Kansas City Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, and served for 15 years, continuing a life rooted in sisterhood and service. She served as corresponding secretary, chair of the Nominating Committee, chair of Ritual and Ceremonies, co-chair of International Trends and Services, member of the Health and Human Services Facet Courtesy Committee’s Finance Team, 50th Anniversary Committee, and member of the Logistics Committee for the 2007 Central Area Conference.
June has always loved the Lord. Upon her arrival to Kansas City, she united with the congregation of Central Christian Church (DOC). As a member there she served as a trustee, an administrative aide to the pastor and as an elder visiting the sick and serving communion to the shut-in. In 1998 at the request of the founders, June became the board chair of the Community Fellowship Church of Jesus Christ. June has served faithfully and with strong commitment for 28 years. As a result of her guidance and business leadership, the church has always been administratively sound and in compliance. She started the largest and longest fundraising effort in the church's history, the "Logo Wear Market.” June unveiled the church logo in such a manner that people from everywhere called wanting to use it, but of course she would always call their attention to the "circle c" copyright before released (smile). Across the community and through the years, June has affectionately and effectively made her presence known.
In addition to the aforementioned, June served on the planning committee for The Kansas City Globe newspaper’s 100 Most influential African Americans in Greater Kansas City. She served on the board of directors for the Lincoln University Foundation Incorporated. She was one of the first six women ever in the previously all male Kansas City Junior Chamber of Commerce. June was always very quiet about awards and honors and encouraged others not to worry about recognition--"Just do the work.” But a couple of her most cherished honors were The Kansas City Globe newspaper’s 100 Most Influent Influential African Americans of Greater Kansas City’s Award and Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities.
On January 22, 2026, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s Golden Life member 031588 took her nine white pearls to Heaven.
She leaves to cherish fond memories: her loving big brother Gary White (Jeanette) of St. Louis Missouri; her niece Malkia White of St. Louis Missouri; her other siblings Greg Williams, Richard Williams, Michael Williams and Stacy Williams; special cousins JoAnne Elliot and Debra Hunt of Detroit Michigan; God siblings Reverend Yolanda Perry and (Pup) Bishop Saundra McFadden Weaver of the home; Pat and Jim Moody of Cleveland, Ohio; and her longest and best sister-friend, Dr. Della Johnson of Salisbury, Maryland.
Although June was never a biological mother, she took great pride in her mentees and or chosen Godchildren: LaKeshia Sanders and her son Dominic, Rickey and Samantha Winfield (Bre, K.J., Malaki, Emory), Welton Lee (Lennox), Alesia McFadden, Sarah McFadden, Shamiya Parrott, Cobe Moore and a host of other loving relatives and friends not mentioned but never forgotten.
