Leroy Mays Jr.

Leroy Mays Jr., 69, passed on Tuesday, October 15th, 2024 in Houston, TX. Born on July 1, 1955, in Kansas City, MO, the son of the late Juanita Mays and Leroy Mays Sr.  Leroy was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and friend. He attended Southeast High School, earned his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Friends University, followed by a Master’s in Business from Mid-American Nazarene University. Leroy had a successful career in management with major companies like AT&T, and IBM. At the time of his passing, he worked as the Director of IT Customer Service at the University of Houston. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Leroy made a lasting impact on his community in Kansas City by coaching youth basketball and baseball teams, mentoring countless young men. Known as Coach, Leroy had such a great influence on many of his players.  Leroy is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Diane Mays, and their children: Jason Stewart and Brandon Mays (Claudia). Leroy, known as Papa leaves behind three amazing grandchildren, Mikah and Mason Mays and Adysen Stewart.  Leroy’s siblings include sisters Linda Brown (late Steve), Gale Waters (late Kevin), Denise Dixon, Paula Mays, and Michaela Mays; brothers Daryl Mays and Gary Mays (Marquita). Leroy also has a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family. Leroy was a man whose warmth, kindness, and intelligence touched everyone he met. His vibrant smile could light up any room, and he was known for his ability to connect with anyone. To his family, his greatest role was that of Husband, Dad and Papa, but to all who knew him, he was so much more, a coach, father figure, and a dear friend. He will be deeply missed.
