Obituary for Mr. John Elwood Chipchase

John Elwood Chipchase (11-30-1961) John Chipchase worked as a paramedic with the Kansas City Fire Department. He passed away in the early morning on February 19th, 2018, after btling abdominal cancer. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, 5 children – Bethany Urbanek, Dana Garten, Joshua Chipchase, Jessie Chipchase and Hannah Dunteman. 2 older brothers – Mark Chipchase and Steve Chipchase. 5 children and 7 grandchildren. He is also survived by his parents, Dr. Elwood Chipchase and Grace Chipchase, and his two older brothers. John was a hard worker with a driven titude. He finished his paramedic certificion while also working a full time job, a part time job and providing for 5 young children. He worked as a radio DJ for Calvary 88.5 before being promoted to stion manager. When he moved on to his job as a paramedic he discovered th he loved helping people and wanted to pursue a higher level of educion. John was one class short of finishing nursing school when he was diagnosed with cancer. John was a committed follower of Jesus Christ who believed th theology was worthless–unless it changed your life. He believed he was going straight to heaven when he died: not because he deserved heaven (no one does), but because God had led him to turn to Jesus and put his trust in Jesus’ sacrificial deh and resurrection. John, Chip, or “Paramedic Jesus” as some of his friends called him due to his long hair, tacked life with a cheery (although sometimes sarcastic) titude. He had an energetic and mischievous sense of humor th led others to like him (and sometimes got him in trouble). He was always willing to help his loved ones with any problem. He taught himself how to fix cars, install plumbing, fix electrical problems, repair appliances, fix computers, and make the best ever Christmas crepes. He was a gifted musician and singer, ameur photographer and beloved fher. Although the youngest of his siblings, John strove to be the connecting force between his family – he called his brothers and dad for short chs nearly every day. John was a loving, tentive husband, dad and “Papa.” Though he is absent from this world, his kindness, acceptance, bravery, faithfulness, endurance and daily love continue to inspire the people who depended on him most.
