Doris N. (Dial) Whitmire

Doris Nadine (Dial) Whitmire 102, passed May 30, 2019 was born in Chetopa, Kansas on January 17, 1917 to the union of Clifford and Anna Dial. She affectionely known by her children as “NaNa” the oldest of four children, Doris Nadine served as a mother figure to her two surviving siblings. All three children were educed in the Chetopa High School System tending Douglas Grade School and graduing from Chetopa High School. Her parents and siblings preceded her in deh: Alonzo Henry Dial Sr, Amelia Louise Dial and Kherine Johnson. Doris Nadine was raised by her pernal grandmother, Miss Jane Dial, who was a strong and strict disciplinarian. Miss Jane Dial was well respected by the whole town and was always addressed as “Miss Jane Dial” by both black and white town residents. Her children were well-educed becoming educors, a college dean and mayor. Miss Jane Dial held the same expections for her grandchildren. In 1934, the age of seventeen, Doris Nadine moved to Kansas City, Missouri, to be with her mother. She began her life with Christ True Vine Baptist Church 13 & Cherry under the leadership of Reverend R.E. Holland. Doris Nadine lived in Kansas City, Missouri for many years, ler moving to Argentine,Kansas where she enjoyed gardening, planting fruits and vegetables and raising farm animals. While living in Argentine, she was a member of the Mother’s Board and the Women’s Mission Group. Ler moving back to Kansas City, Missouri she started her own business and joined the DeLisa Debs Social Club – a philanthropic women’s organizion focused on community development. Doris Nadine united with Haven of Rest Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Nhan Nelson where she entered holy mrimony with William H. Whitmire – affectionely referred to as “Pops”. She tended Malachi Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Donald Tittle Jr. until her health began to decline. As a mother she passed her strong faith in God onto her nine children: Shirley, Walter, Robert, Beverly, Frances, Donna, Jerome, Alyce and Angela. Church tendance was mandory. She was a strong strict disciplinarian who was passionely stern. She installed the sanctity of family and unity, teaching her children to be one for all and all for one. Her motto was: “If one is in trouble – everyone better go see about th one. If one is down all are down. If one is up, all are up”. Doris Nadine Promoted moral values, self-respect and respect of others. Her beloved husband: William H. Whitmire (Pops); three children: Shirley Ann Looney, Robert Mhis Sr. and Frances O’Neal; five grandchildren: Doris Nadine Mhis, Debra Mhis, Walter Mhis IV, Royce Turner II and Marvin O’Neal; two gre-grandchildren: Ja’Von Looney and James Austin Turner preceded her in deh. Doris Nadine departed this life on Thursday, May 30, 2019 – 11 days after her beloved ” best child” Shirley Ann. There is comfort in knowing they are together. And we know th in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose – Romans 8:28. Doris Nadine is the mriarch of six generions. She leaves behind to cherish her memories her children: Walter (Norma) Mhis III, Beverly Young, Donna (Clarence) White, Jerome (Teresa) Norris Jr. Alyce (Willie) Mitchell and Angela Norris: two bonus brothers: Robert Dorsey and Clifford Dorsey; longest living friend: Willa Roberts and a host of grandchildren, cousins, relives and friends.
