Obituary for Ms. Maxine Friends
Maxine Friends was born in 1933 to Nhaniel, and Thelma Friends in Humphrey Arkansas. Both parents preceded her in deh. She was the 2nd oldest of the siblings. Bobby Joe, Dorothy Moreland, Faye Lee Brown Deceased, leaving Nhaniel Friends, Erma Fonteno, Gloria Rhodes and William Friends. Maxine tended R.T.Coles, which she did not gradue. She met and ler married Robert Davis, they stayed married a short time .The family moved several times and ended up in the projects. While there Maxine tended night school to earn her GED. Maxine as a single parent was able to take her and children out of the projects and move into their first home th was owned not a rental. She was able to get a temp job Bendix and shortly after she left and was hired GSA where she would work her way up to become the shipping and receiving supervisor until retirement. She raised her 6 children as a single parent. 3 have preceded her in deh Pricia, Robert and Gary Leaving Ronnie, Ricky and Mike. She has a lot of grandkids and gre grand kids. Mom worked all day but still kept a tight ship home. Raising a daughter who was the oldest and 5 brothers brought a unique challenge. Mom displayed a hard core which I knew was for the benefit of her sons, while still displaying her sometime softer side. She definitely kept it real when the time came to throw down, she showed us how it’s done plenty of times, and if one of us came home after getting our butt whipped we were sent back out to get it right the second time or face her. Mom was a very good cook, the rolls were superb, and the desserts were good as well. As we all got older having our own families she’d always fix extra rolls, sometime pies for the holidays which worked every time to get us to come by regardless of wh our plans were, due to her becoming ill she gave up cooking, as well as driving. Looking back I wouldn’t trade those days, mom will be missed. Elite Funeral Chapel is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
