Obituary for George Truman Taylor

Mr. George Truman Taylor was born on February 22, 1946, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Henry and Atriab Taylor. Both parents predeceased him; his beloved son Michael A. Taylor; brothers, H.P. Taylor, Alvin T. Taylor, Joe Louis Taylor, and Lovie Taylor; sisters, Bertha Mims, Janie Webb, Treobie Taylor, Theoapheis Lee, and Gladys Burney.

George received his education in the Carrie Martin Schools of Plain Dealing, Louisiana. He was raised and nurtured in a Christian home where he expressed his belief in Christ at an early age.

On the beautiful day of August 15, 1965, he united in marriage to his childhood sweetheart and lifetime soulmate Linda F. Taylor. From this union, three children were born. In 1966 the family relocated to Kansas City, Missouri. In 1975 he united with Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend A. L. Johnson, Sr. He was a member of the Deacon Ministry. He later united with the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Kim L. Gladney where he continued to serve the Deacon Ministry. At the time of his passing, he was a member of the Canaan Worship Center under the leadership of Bishop Tony D. Cobbins.

George had a love and devotion for cooking. Throughout his more than half-century career as a chef, he worked at Cascone's, Houston's, Jack Stack, and other establishments where he served delectable and innovative dishes that many people relished and enjoyed. His stuffed shrimp was legendaryand always a requested favorite at family gatherings.

George was a passionate and expert pool player, a skill he honed and perfected in his mother*s caf* growing up in Louisiana. He was not the one to challenge if you valued your reputation. However, those who dared walked away with a greater appreciation of his slick game talk and adeptness. They were rewarded with that sly, captivating smile, and an invitation to return once they had acquired some knowledge. He was always eager to provide complimentary lessons. George also had a great affinity for cars and motorcycles. He took pleasure in wiping down his cars.

He wasn't keen on driving around in an unclean vehicle. Whether he did it himself or coaxedabrother-in-law,nephew, or grandchild to clean and polish it up with promises of a drive afterward. He wanted his cars to shine, to look as good as its owner. Two of his most prized possessions included a beautiful 1965 cherry-red Mustang and a stunning 1966 white Mustang. The latter Mustang is still in the family and is a special part of his legacy to one fortunate grandchild.

George departed this earthly life peacefully at the family home on February 22, 1946. George was the baby boy and the sole surviving sibling till his passing. He was frequently regarded as the favorite uncle.

George leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of nearly 60 years Linda Taylor, two daughters, Wanjalette Taylor-Brown (Ronald) Overland Park, Kansas, Donna Taylor-Tucker (John) Clinton, Missouri; three grandchildren, Dontae* Taylor Sr. (Nichole), Deandre* Taylor and Adonis Taylor; seven great-grandchildren, Taylon Taylor, Demetrius Dahmer, Dontae* Taylor Jr, Nasir Taylor, Desmond Dahmer-Taylor, Damauri Dahmer-Taylor, and Essence Taylor; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
